The Holy Hotcake
Paleo Pancake with Blueberry + Holy Basil Compote: A Neuro, Nervous System & Spiritual fast breaker.
Food & Food Rituals Are Sacred
Jesus Taught That the Sabbath Day was made for our benefit (see Mark 2:27). The purpose of the Sabbath is to give us a certain day of the week on which to direct our thoughts and actions toward God.
It’s not a day merely to rest from work, but one of reconnection with God.
Being the supreme Lawgiver, he hath power to dispense with his own laws; and with this in particular, that we slow down to speed up our connection with Christ, His laws & in my opinion, how we can start a new taking small actions to build legacies around them.
I’ll be covering Shabbat and meals for the sabbath, in future posts.
Mark 2:27-28
And hee said vnto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
King James Version (1611)

The Star Ingredient: Holy Basil & The Holy Bible
According to Orthodox tradition,
when the disciples of Jesus went to the tomb of Christ they found it empty but all around the area were fully bloomed Tulasi. The Greeks called Tulasi ‘Holy Basil’, from the Greek word ‘basileus’ meaning King/royalty.
The story is told
that Basil was found growing around Christ's tomb after the ressurection. This herb entombed the fallen saviour, making basil a symbol of the new life and the regenerated nature.
Ocimum sanctum, grown in the garden of paradise,
ushers in a return to Eden, neutralizing the forbidden fruit, just as the resurrection nullifies the fall. Some Greek Orthodox churches use basil to prepare holy water, which becomes the Jordan for those that are cleansed of sin.
Because Tulasi was discovered both at the cross and tomb of Christ, traditional Orthodox Christians saw it as a symbol of paradise, of spiritual rebirth and sanctity.
The star ingredient
in these cakes is the Holy Basil and Basil infused Blueberry Compote, calming the nervous system and strengthening the spiritual body.
I make tonic ice cream sandwiches from the leftover waffles and blueberry yogurt, goat milk ice cream and jam from the Holy Basil Compote. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, served :)
You can also make waffles or pancakes with this batter and eat to your heart’s content.
These holy hotcakes are
gluten free, grain free, paleo and low glycemic OR sugar free - depending on how you choose to sweeten them.
I levelled up their holy power by replacing regular basil with Holy Basil, an ancient herb used for centuries to ease anxiety & stress and strengthen cognitive function, the nervous system and a connection to our higher planes of consciousness.
Holy basil is a staple in my trauma toolbox for easing overthinking, anxiety, a jacked up nervous system and an overpacked schedule.
This recipe makes 12 medium sized waffles.
The Pancake
DRY INGREDIENTS
1 cup almond/quinoa flour
1/2 cup tapioca flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
WET INGREDIENTS
4 large eggs
1/4 cup grass fed cow’s milk OR goat’s milk
1 tbsp honey, or maple syrup
1 tsp apple cider vinegar (magic ingredient!)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
ghee, butter or coconut oil to coat skillet
INSTRUCTIONS
Whisk all of the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk all of the wet ingredients. Then, add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk until well combined.
Heat a skillet or griddle on medium-high heat and coat with ghee, butter or coconut oil.
Spoon the batter onto the skillet, keeping your pancakes approximately 3-4 inches in diameter. They're much easier to flip smaller. Let them cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Serve immediately with maple syrup, bananas and other toppings.
